JACOB (JAY) KARNOFSKY

U.S. Veteran

Jacob (Jay) Karnofsky, of River St, Forty-Fort, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 14, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Wilkes-Barre in 1921, Jay was the son of the late Clement and Fanny Freed Karnofsky. He graduated from Meyers High School Class of 1939 and was a graduate of Penn State University. Jay served as president of Bartikowsky Jewelers, Wilkes-Barre, until his retirement. He served on the advisory board and was an Emeritus member for Penn State University; was past board member of Temple Israel Synagogue; past board member of Temple Israel School Board; past board member of the Jewish Community Center and past president of the American Merchandisers Association. Mr. Karnofsky was an eternal light member of Temple Israel Synagogue; member of the Jewish Community Center and its men's club; member of the Wilkes-Barre Kiwanis, the Masons and Irem Shrine, as well as many other civic and religious organizations.

The family thanks Gail Sherman, Lee Ann Kosloski and Trudy Malecki for years of loving care and friendship.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jane Bartikowsky Karnofsky in 2008 and brother, Dr. Robert E. Karns in 2011.

Jay is survived by his loving children, daughters, Gail Morris and her husband Howard, Bryn Mawr, PA; Lynn Ahmad and her husband, Mac, Dallas; son, Kenneth and his wife, Sabine Clark, Lexington, Mass; cherished grandchildren, Leslie Bari and her husband Jon, Andrew Morris and his wife Inga, Amanda Ahmad, Abby Ahmad and her fiancee Mark Marshall, Mia Karnofsky, Joshua Karnofsky; 4 great granddaughters: Brittany Morris, Debra Morris, Elizabeth Morris and Lexi Bari and nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 1:00 pm at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Larry Kaplan officiating. Interment will be in Temple Israel Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Shiva will be observed at 455 River St., Forty Fort, Tuesday 7-9, Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9.
